I Have Returned...
..., freed from the chains of employment. Working 10-12 hours a day doesn't leave much time for blogging, so my posts have deteriorated in number over the summer (the final count is zero).
However, more are forthcoming on an oddity of the Georgian case system, some thoughts on Greek Lyric poetry, and most likely a rant about the GRE.
That said, I'm back from Leiden, so since you're free from the chains of employment, give me an email and we should go get a coffee or something and I promise to give you my best Frederik Kortlandt impersonation.
Sweet deal. I'm at school every day (in the Honours Room) studying for that blasted GRE (and doing some Hittite/readings on various linguistic topics). If you swing by sometime I'll most likely be there.
"For it is neccesarily in you and consequently should provide some perception by which you can form some opinion of what sophrosune is, and what kind of thing it is : do you not think so ?"
In Plato's dialogue the Charmides it is established (though, as always in Plato's early works, not conclusively) that there are four traits that the one who has sophrosune posseses: (1)hesuchia, meaning 'stillness' or 'quietness'; (2) aidos, meaning 'modesty' or 'self-respect'; (3) one who does his own business; and (4) one who knows himself. This seems to me a good ideal, not just for the philosopher, but for everyone. Though the concept isn't definitevly established in the dialogue, these hints nonetheless provide an exellent ideal to strive for.

Sweet, yo. I was going to go down today to pick up some books from the library. I'll stop by to see if you're there.
Huzzah! I was worried the blog had died.
